Packing for a cruise for the first time may feel like a Grinch moment, “But what will I wear?”. This will hopefully help break down what you do and do not need to pack.
With cruising it gives you the opportunity to visit multiple dream destinations, all on one trip with only needing to unpack once. With the added luxury of taking as much luggage as desired onto the ship, you could even take your whole wardrobe.

Never forget your carry-on bag! Once you are onboard the ship your luggage may not be at your cabin right away, It may take a couple hours. If you pack what you need for your first day on board then there is no delay on starting your holiday. Some of your essentials you will need are; your passport, toiletries, chargers, change of clothing, sun cream and if you want to sunbath or take a quick dip then pack you swimmers and flipflops. Your carry-on bag will also come in handy when you are ashore exploring for money, souvenirs, water etc.

If you are doing any shore excursions always keep in mind what their dress code is when packing, whether its a hike up a volcano to kayaking, they may request appropriate shoes etc.
When packing everyone knows you have to consider how long you are going for, as well as your destinations and what you have planned there. If the Caribbean is your chosen cruise you may pack mainly swim wear and light clothing. However if you have booked shore experiences, always pack clothes baring this in mind. Flip flops and a bikini is perfect for drinking cocktails on the beach but if you have more active plans like hiking or cycling, you’ll need to make sure you have checked the dress code and packed the appropriate items.

Even if you are somewhere hot always pack a warm clothes option, nights at sea can get chilly. It isn’t uncommon for a tropical storm to happen either. Wrap up warm with a jumper or jacket to star gaze on the top decks or on your balcony. Most religious sites require you to cover your shoulders and knees, even if its hot, otherwise you may be refused entry.
Whether you are wanting to steal the show on a Celebration Night or having a romantic meal in one of the speciality restaurants onboard then pack your cherished cocktail dress/ball gown or suit & tie/tuxedo. Although if you feel more comfortable with a casual dress on or smart trousers and shirt then majority of evenings you can dress as you would if going to a nice restaurant at home. Don’t forget to pack suitable evening wear.

One thing I always take onboard with me is a small extension lead, so I can plug in my electrics over night. Another item is my hair dryer, I have thick hair and some hotel hair dryers take a while to dry my hair compared to my own. Lastly I also pack some carry bags with me, these are for my washing/wet clothes as well as, my shoes if they become dirty from any hikes or bad weather.
But what don’t you need to pack? On board P&O all towels are provided to you from the pool towels on deck 15 to bath towels left in your cabin each day. Specific toiletries such as, Shampoo, Conditioner, soap and shower gel which will be in your cabin and replenished by your cabin steward. There is a library on board where you can take books out to read throughout your cruise.
