Refurb delays cancel sailings

The popular cruise ship Iona has had to cancel two of its sailings, due to a delay in the shipyard. Now the refurbishment wont take place in March 2025 but in October that year instead.

The cruise line had taken into account the refurb when the 2025 itinerary was released however, now two of the October itineraries have had to be cancelled. The ship yard can not accommodate the Iona due to other ships being in the yard at the same time.

The two cruises that have been cancelled are G532 (4th oct) and G533 (18th Oct). The guests that were scheduled to travel on the ship have been contacted via email, and been issued a full refund automatically. As well as been given £100 per person on board credit for a replacement cruise, this has been capped at £200 per cabin.

There has been no other offers in transferring the passengers onto a similar cruise for no additional price, instead the refund and on board credit is the only thing the passengers have been provided. Iona was built in 2020, so there isn’t a known idea of what the refit will entail. P&O are also scheduling other ships in the fleet for refurb too, as they like to keep the ships in top condition.

P&O have scheduled 3 cruises on the Iona in march with the cruises being:

G504 – 1st to 13th march (12 nights) round Spain and Portugal.

G505N – 13th to 18th March (5 nights) round Belgium and Netherlands.

G505P – 18th March to 1st April (14 nights) round Spain, Portugal and Canary Islands.

Each of these cruises off a variety of ports as well as different durations too. Hopefully the refurb goes to plan with all the cruise ships in the fleet and it will be exciting to see what P&O have planned.
