Why do I choose P&O?

Its not a secret to those who know me that I always choose to travel with P&O. I have many friends who travel on different cruise lines, and it still doesn’t make me want to jump away from P&O. With being lucky enough to have travelled on every ship in the fleet, I will continue to be excited by them. Here is a list I have created, which I believe makes P&O stand out from the rest.

1. The price.

Being a keen and solo cruiser, I always look for good deals and something affordable. Enjoying my holiday and not worrying about breaking the bank, is something I consider before booking my getaway. With P&O they always show cheaper than other cruises lines, which offer similar itineraries. Its a deal you must take full advantage of. P&O are one of a few cruise lines who don’t make tips an additional price. They can cost up to £15pp ($19.03) a day does soon add up especially on a two week cruise, so with P%O you are saving around £210pp ($266.38) for a two week cruise. You can provide tips throughout the cruise, but are not expected to.

Although there isn’t any waterslides, rock climbing walls, dodgems or ice-rinks on board, the new ship Arvia offers a mini golf course, an altitude sky walk and a mission control experience. Across the fleet the high quality of food, accommodation, service and overall experience is hard to beat. This cruise line is perfect for those who have saved or on a budget.

2. Safety.

Like all cruise lines safety is paramount for all crew and passengers on board P&P. With the safety video in your cabin when you board, to announcement’s when arrived at port and board, its hard to be unsafe. There is security when boarding at ports as, a couple employees check your cruise card before touching the gangway and once on board your cruise card is scanned. This makes it difficult for anyone to board the ship who isn’t a genuine passenger.

When through out the ship there is always employees serving your every need, so if there is any problems, queries or you are just lost, you are never short of someone to ask. As I travel mostly solo, it gives my parents the ease of not worrying as well as, knowing I am safe for the duration of my cruise. If you don’t board the ship after being in port all day, the cruise line doesn’t just forget. They will announce your name on the ship as well as do all the checks to know you are safe. Cruising is a holiday I always feel comfortable and safe doing, and meeting people who are wanting to experience the same holiday and are like minded with all age groups.

3. The Cabin Television.

At home I am always too busy to sit down and watch films or TV series however, when on a cruise and relaxing. Putting on the TV is just a luxury. The options across all fleets are worth a mention as you are truly spoilt for choice. Although the older ships have smaller tv screens you are still given a good selection of tv shows and films. On the newer ships the screens are luxuriously big with options of cartoons, new channels, movies, sports, weather, and many more.

P&O offer a channel to watch the ship sail on the bridge camera, this benefits those who are in an inside cabin or sea view cabin and want to gage the weather. The bridge camera can also help to see how rough the sea is. however I still watch the channel even with a balcony.

4. Food.

Knowing the food is good quality and a high standard, is almost as important as the entertainment and the price. Having the comfort of accessibility of diverse food is a must when on holiday and P&O offer just that. In the huge buffet on all ships across the fleet breakfast is open from 6am to 12pm. This gives you a whole 6 hours to divulge in food. Why limit yourself on just one breakfast, if you fancy porridge or pancakes and a full English, you absolutely can.

If you want a more relaxed and waited style of breakfast then the main restaurants offer this service. Spend that extra hour in bed and have room service at an additional cost or Rise and Shine which is cold food only at no extra cost delivered to your door at a time which suits you. Its as simple as filling out the form and hanging on your before heading to bed.

Watching us dock or waking up early in the morning with a cup of tea, to soak up the views is a must when I’m cruising. So with the option to have breakfast delivered to my room, as well as a big period to go to breakfast is perfect, there’s no need to rush.

5. No sneaking drinks on board.

There’s nothing worse then catching a flight and your alcohol ends up being taken off of you, with P&O they have abandoned this. When boarding each guest is allowed to bring onboard up to 1 litre of alcohol, which can be consumed in your cabin. This means you can take a bottle of alcohol such as Disaronno and some large bottles of coke to mix it with. If you want your drink on the rocks, then you can call room service for some ice which is free of charge. I do this in the evenings so i can get ready, before heading out to the entertainment and dinner. This can save a massive amount of money as a single spirit is £4.45 ($5.64), which means you’ll save a massive £62.30 ($79.03) on a two week cruise.

P&O doesn’t just limit boarding with just alcohol, you can also board with birthday cakes and flowers too. As long as its inline with their T&C’s there is no issue, it may be different if you are boarding on a flight cruise so, its always advised to check before embarkation.

6. Children’s clubs.

Cruising with children of all ages has become a lot more popular as its a safe environment. The children’s clubs on board are amazing and provide a great opportunity to make new friends and give the parents a well deserved break. You need to book a space via the website or My Holidays app to allow a place for your children, they may be turned away if arriving with no booking. due to limited space.

On board there is a Night Nursery which P&O offer and it can be amazing for parents with children under five. The Nursey is open from 6pm to 2am every evening, allowing parents to drop their children off in a room which is quite and dark. All staff members are fully qualified in the children’s clubs so there nothing for you to worry. You will be given a pager so if you are needed the staff members can contact you, these aren’t big so you can place them in your bag.

So you can sit back, enjoy your evening of high quality food and amazing entertainment with a glass of wine, knowing your children are happy and safe. With it being a included service you dnt need to pay a penny extra for this luxury. After all you are on holiday too.

7. The service and Itinerary.

Across the whole fleet of P&O, I have never experienced a bad run in with any staff members. With over 1,000 on every cruise ship they all have been outstanding. With no question or request as too much, they have a service with a smile even in the early hours. With the service around the clock there’s never a wrong time to need anything.

P&O offer cruises that travel around the world so, with multiple options and itineraries to choose from they truly spoil us for choice. Having the diversity available, it allows myself and others to experience different places all at the comfort of the ship. Cruises will never become boring with P&O.
