I have just come back from a 7 night Norwegian Fjords cruise on P&O’s Britannia, and WOW, WOW, WOW. To say it was incredible is a massive understatement.
Strap on in… Its going to be a long one!

Embarkation day… It started with a funny drive down to Southampton with my Best friend Clarke, the drive was very easy and simple with not a lot of traffic. I then dropped my suitcases off, waved goodbye to my car (and Clarke), and walked towards the terminal. The queue wasn’t long for those of us that were on our embarkation time. (If you turn up early then you will have to wait before being allowed into the terminal). Once inside I waited in another queue to be checked in, this didn’t take anymore that 15mins before, I made my way to security. Once I was on the ship, I went to my muster station prior to my cabin to collect my cruise card. My luggage was already there waiting and it only took me roughly 45 minutes to get to my cabin. You couldn’t do that in an airport!
Each evening consisted on getting ready for dinner, meeting up with some new friends, scoffing my face and enjoying the entertainment onboard. Such as, Magic shows, comedians, guest singers and bands, theatre productions, silent discos and so much more. Some nights I wanted to cut myself in half because, there was so much on.

Day 1… Its a sea day so, I had a lovely lay-in with breakfast in bed whilst looking out to open water. Looking at the Daily Horizon which shows you everything that is on today, I wanted to do some dancing which was on at 11am. After I went and done some light reading up on the top deck as, the weather was lovely. Time for lunch so i grabbed a plate in the Horizon Buffet, there is so much choice. I relaxed for the evening by going to seminars, having coffees and listening to live music being played before starting my evening.

Day 2… I woke up to the beautiful sight of Stavanger. I had no excursion booked at this port and I have been here before, so I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Being a Sunday there wasn’t much on or open other than the market, museum and food shops. There was no rush to get off today as all I wanted to do was visit the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, go for a walk and get my favourite chocolate from a Seven Eleven! I was living my Heathers dream!! It was then time to head back to the ship ready to watch us sail away and then prepare for the evening.

Day 3… We had arrived in Olden! An early start as, I had an excursion booked for today which was hiking up the Briksdal Glacier. I was slightly nervous because I didn’t know how hard it would be, as we set off on the coach we arrived at a car park. We was told by the guide that she will be at the back of the group and to get food and drink first. knowing me id need the toilet the whole time so i set off before everyone. There is Troll cars which you can book allowing you to enjoy the experience with less hiking, however there is a slight hill walk to get to the Glacier.
On the walk I met a lovely young lady who was also a solo traveller. We stayed together so we didn’t get lost whilst taking loads of photos of each other. We took in the beautiful views before heading back down to grab some food and drink. Soon it was time to head back and either do some shopping or get onto the ship. It was so hot that people were sunbathing… that’s right SUNBATHING!! After a quick shop, we headed back to the boat for the sail away ad the evening antics.

Day 4... It was Flam time and god was a nervous for today! On the excursion yesterday I met a lovely solo traveller Hollie, we both decided to book a floating sauna today as its something we both wanted to do! Before our allotted time we met up and done some shopping and grabbed some local food. Our time was 1230 which was perfect. There was 10 other people who also booked this experience and it was amazing! Although cold… it was an incredible experience. We then dried up and went back to the ship for the evening adventures to begin.

Day 5… The last port was Haugesund and it was sad knowing my next port will be the UK but, that didn’t put a damper on my day! I went for a walk to see what was around as I have never been here before. It was a little bit grey and like a coastal town, as there was shops, supermarkets, takeaways, pubs, tattoo shops and more. I had to be back to the ship for 1300 as, I was on an excursion to the WW2 Museum.
I hopped on the bus and we went to view Kyststien i Haugesund and take photos, before heading to the Harquebus Krigshistorisk museum. I met a lovely couple who were amazed I was on my own and on this excursion. It was amazing and very informative, with every item inside found or donated too by volunteers, veterans and others… It is extremely impressive. As it was our last port, we left at 1600 and the sail-away was one big party!

Day 6… The final sea day and the one we dread. As it was my last day onboard I had breakfast in bed before, packing my suitcase. I went up to do some line dancing at 11am as well as fitting in lots more activities after. Ziva (my travel mascot) was lucky enough to go and visit the bridge. I was so busy I forgot to grab some lunch so at around 1630 I headed to grab a cheeky pizza on the top deck, where I bumped into Luke who was one of the gust entertainers. We had a long and interesting conversation to which i realised having over 40,000 McDonalds points is a lot… Almost too many.
I ended up not having any pizza and heading down to rush to get ready for the evening. After I watched the Headliners in the theatre (This is P&O’s own theatre company), I bumped into the guest entertainers and we went for some drinks. They were hilarious and I wish I had bumped into them sooner! Its just typical its the last night!! At 2am I said goodbye and headed to bed for the last time.

Disembarkation day… I’m not crying, you are!! It was that time everyone hates when on holiday. I had to be out of my cabin by 8am so I gathered my stuff and said bye to my cabin. I was feeling slightly rough from last night, so I managed to find The Live Lounge which was nice and quiet. Whilst reading my book, Laura who I also met onboard met me and we kept each other company. At around 0915 we decided to walk towards the gangway where we scanned our cruise cars one last time. It was a short walk to where our luggage was waiting for us, this didn’t take long to find our luggage before making our way outside. I was off the ship, said goodbye to Laura, put my luggage in Clarkes car all before 10am.

Overall the holiday was absolutely amazing with so many more memories that have been made. I truly believe that you meet people on holiday for a reason, and tis holiday has proven that. From Hollie who shares the same birthday as me to the guest entertainers which one lives 5 minutes away from me and goes to my gym. I am so grateful for those i have met as, having the ability to go on holiday on my own. This cruise is one that I enjoy immensely and will continue to do this itinerary yearly.

Next year I will definitely do more hiking to the waterfalls etc as, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. The weather was extremely nice so, I will be booking it again for May next year. This cruise is one that I insist you try, the views are magical and the experience is once in a life time. One of my favourite cruises to do!
