How to make your cabin organised

Whilst having over 20 years of cruising experience I have learnt the best ways to keep your cabin as tidy as possible. Cabins are designed in a particular way to maximise the space onboard, so being organised will help especially if you are travelling with children or family and friends.

Most cabins house up to 4 adults however, this means you will need to find space for everyone’s clothes, toiletries and suitcases.

Suitcases

Some people can struggle in finding somewhere to place your suitcase as they can take up a lot of room. I tend to empty my suitcase and place any smaller ones inside, before trying to place them under the bed. The beds can be different heights so if they don’t fit then I try to place them in the wardrobes under the hangers, this option does take up shoe space.

If I am travelling with a group of people or the cabin space is limited then I ask the cabin steward if he is able to take them away and return then at the end of the cruise. There is no harm in asking.

Packing cubes

One thing I was so grateful for purchasing is packing cubes. They have helped me not overpack and they help with space inside the suitcase. You can pack all of the same items of clothing in each cube so you know where each ones are, unpacking has never been easier too.

There are a variety of styles and sizes which you can use the smaller ones for makeup and there’s even shoe bags too depending on which brand you buy. (See link below).

Toiletries

There is often space in the cabins bathrooms for toiletries but this can also be limited too depending on how many people are in the cabin. Only packing the essentials just like your clothes will be beneficial on managing space.

I always bring my toiletries in my amazon bag which you can unfold and hang with its hook on the back of the door, this will utilise the space as some cabins don’t have shelves. (See link below)

Most cruise lines have body was and shampoo already in the shower, you can also ask for conditioner to be provided.

Miscellaneous

In the cabins there are a few draws and cupboard which may not be used or easily accessible. I always put items which I don’t need continuously such as; books, hair curler or dryers, hair accessories, jewelry, pens and paper, card games, chargers and more.

I find keeping small things out the way reduces the chance of losing them and the cabin steward accidently knocking them off.

Shoes

This may seem like a silly option however, you don’t realise how easy it is to trip over your shoes which are sprawled everywhere. When I unpack I make sure there is a dedicated room for my shoes so they are out of the way and the cabin steward can clean the room easier.

I always place them either in the bottom of the wardrobe or under the desk, I have seen a few people bring shoe holders which you can also hand on the back of doors etc (See below the link). Be mindful when packing shoes as they do take up plenty of room and they are heavy too. I always pack some walking shoes/gym shoes, flipflops and high heels.
